The ILM L3 coaching qualification is the place to learn and improve your coaching skills.

In this course you will:

  • Learn the skills and processes for coaching within the school setting.
  • Be able to coach on professional and personal topics.
  • Understand and manage the balance between coaching and mentoring.
  • Use standard coaching skills, including questioning, listening, pausing, structuring sessions.
  • Coach people with workplace challenges and opportunities.
  • Coach people within school on topics of their choosing.
  • Find a healthy balance between the coach/coachee relationship, and the needs of the school.

This course is designed for you to learn the skills to use coaching regularly in school. You may be coaching teachers, students, or other colleagues, and will learn the skills to coach all of these groups according to their needs.

Learning Outcomes:

All our participants finish the course with a comprehensive toolkit that allows them to:

  • Understand clearly the difference between coaching and mentoring.
  • Access key coaching skills of questions, listening, pausing.
  • Be able to structure coaching session effectively.
  • Have a high focus on outcomes, change and action for and by our coachees.

Additional Information

Course Duration: 6 ½ day online sessions and approx. 50 learning hours. Typically there is an afternoon session, and then a morning session.

Accreditation: ILM Level 3 certificate in workplace coaching and mentoring.

Assessment: 12 hours of coaching practice with some reflective logs about your coaching, 1500 word written essay on coacnignin the workplace, Assessment of coaching skills, coaching journal.

Note: Costs for Learning and Development course programme are covered by departmental employee/officer levy payments. However, should an employee/officer book a place on a course but then subsequently fail to attend or complete the course, repayment of cost of the course will be charged to the department/appointment concerned (recoverable from the individual) (Policy CS04 Sect 6.5). Please note a separate process for funding approval exists for accredited programmes.
