Cultural Competence
Course Details
Cultural Competence is about our will and actions to build understanding between people, to be respectful and open to different cultural perspectives, strengthen cultural security and work towards equality in opportunity. When we use the term culture in this context, ‘culture’ extends to include other variables such as faith/religion, sexual orientation, region of residence, and level of acculturation, and closely related factors such as socioeconomic status and literacy level.
This session will develop a shared understanding of cultural knowledge, cultural awareness, and cultural sensitivity all of which convey the idea of improving cross-cultural capacity and leading to cultural competence.
This course allows space for self-reflection on our own identity whilst hearing about the important aspects central to other’s identities.
