First Aid at Work

Course Content

The 3 day First Aid at Work (FAW) course is designed to provide first aiders with a deeper knowledge and skill set to respond effectively to emergencies in the workplace. It encompasses a range of essential first aid skills that are suitable for larger or higher risk environments, 
The broad range of skills included in this training will equip first aiders with the knowledge they need to respond quickly and confidently if someone becomes ill or is injured in the workplace. It allows a deeper focus on elements such as reasons for unconsciousness and also major blood loss.

  • Basic Life Support
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Examination of a Casualty
  • Unconsciousness
  • Control of Bleeding including massive blood loss
  • Burns and Scalds
  • Fractures and Sprains
  • Regulations
  • First Aid Kits
  • Recording and Reporting

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, delegates should be able to:

  • Have the necessary skills and confidence to deal with first aid situations.

Course Duration: 21 hours (refresher 14 hours)

Who Should Apply

This course is for all Staff/Officer/ESL who in the course of their duties are  expected to deal with a first aid situation and who may have responsibilities including risk assessment of first in their area of care. It is recommended for those who in the course of their duties may work in places with a higher risk or number of first aid incidents being managed.

Cost

£320 (Residential)

Note: Costs for Learning and Development course programme are covered by departmental employee/officer levy payments. However, should an employee/officer book a place on a course but then subsequently fail to attend or complete the course, repayment of cost of the course will be charged to the department/appointment concerned (recoverable from the individual) (Policy CS04 Sect 6.5). Please note a separate process for funding approval exists for accredited programmes.
