Foundational Learning

The Foundational Learning Unit at WBC are pleased to offer a suite of introductory level theological education courses which are intended to help develop knowledge, disposition and understanding in a number of key areas related to Salvationist mission and ministry. These run on a two year rolling programme cycle and are designed with employees in spiritual leadership roles in mind. These intensive, week long courses are studied at William Booth College, and usually see employees studying alongside cadets (who are preparing for full-time officer ministry).

The Courses Scheduled to run in 2025/2026 are:

  • Sure Foundations – An introduction to Salvation Army history and identity
  • Introduction to Salvationist Doctrine (1) – A survey of Salvationist belief
  • Foundations for Spiritual Leadership – An introduction to theology, principles and practices of Christian leadership
  • Intensive Listening Skills – A deep dive into listening skills for pastoral care

The courses scheduled to run in 2026/2027 are:

  • Introduction to Biblical Studies – An entry level course on studying the Bible academically
  • Introduction to Mission Studies – An introduction to missiology and theological reflection upon the territorial Mission Priorities
  • Introduction to Salvationist Doctrine (2) – A continuation of a survey in Salvationist belief, for those who have completed Introduction to Salvationist Doctrine (1)

Course Details   The Introduction to Salvationist Doctrine course offers an outline of the Christian beliefs underpinning The Salvation Army’s eleven Articles of Faith and helps delegates to explore something of where these beliefs come from.
