Mental Health Awareness and Support

Course Details

This four-hour online introduction session aims to raise awareness of poor mental health and how to support yourself and others. The session will discuss language and stigma and introduce the mnemonic ALGEE to support conversations regarding mental health and give time to practice using this. Useful resources and our roles and boundaries will also be discussed.

Learning Outcomes

  • Delegates to consider their own ‘oxygen mask’.
  • Raise awareness of Mental Health, and the scale of the issue within society/ourselves – and those we support.
  • Discuss some of the terms and language used regarding Mental Health and how these can put people off seeking support.
  • Consider our Frame of Reference and Stress Container
  • Highlight the ‘Continuum of Mental Health’
  • Understand the mnemonic ALGEE have having conversations regarding mental health and have time to practice using these.
  • Share the Hub of Hope website/resource for increased awareness of local resources.
  • Discuss the boundaries within our various roles

Cost

 

Note: Costs for Learning and Development course programme are covered by departmental employee/officer levy payments. However, should an employee/officer book a place on a course but then subsequently fail to attend or complete the course, repayment of cost of the course will be charged to the department/appointment concerned (recoverable from the individual) (Policy CS04 Sect 6.5). Please note a separate process for funding approval exists for accredited programmes.
