Pioneering spirit

Identifying or being a catalyst for new missional initiatives, including reviewing how existing roles, practices, and policies need revising, reframing or concluding
Emerging:

I engage in new initiatives. I can see how the gospel can be presented in new and relevant ways.

Competent:

I break new ground, reaching people with the gospel, in new ways, places, contexts, and cultures. I seek the insights of others, learning from our history, and wait on God in discernment.

Releasing:

I promote pioneering and encourage pioneers, standing with them as lessons are learned. I monitor viability of existing communities, encouraging new approaches in unfruitful areas.

Transforming:

I shape culture to re-orientate for the future, promoting shared language and understanding. I drive our founding vision and apostolic calling to reach the unchurched.

Innovation and vision casting

Facilitating boldness in risk taking and creativity, in response to the Holy Spirit’s leading
Emerging:

I share ideas for new projects, embracing feedback and collaboration.

Competent:

I encourage sharing of ideas to improve or begin new projects. I share good practice and encourage feedback, seeing failure as opportunity to learn together. I seek opportunities to participate in communities of practice and prayerful discernment.

Releasing:

I create opportunities for innovation and creative cross fertilisation. I involve those with relevant knowledge and expertise. I support turning local knowledge into organisational wisdom.

Transforming:

I shape new ways of thinking, forming an open environment, using new technologies, increasing diversity of thought, investing in innovation, creating new knowledge.

Decide, plan and implement

Taking responsibility for results, recording in missional journal/department strategies to aid review and accountability, to put faith into action
Emerging:

I act in groups or events where I am involved in setting goals and work towards timely results.

Competent:

I include my team in decision-making, applying reflection and analysis and active planning. I manage projects outlining outcomes, key steps, delegating responsibilities, and timelines for completion.

Releasing:

I empower decision making by ensuring people have necessary skills, resources, and authority to make decisions. I provide timely advice. I implement pragmatic solutions, meeting mission needs.

Transforming:

I shape practice to connect and align different areas of work. I ensure completion of agreed work. I ensure communication and incorporation of new developments into standard practice.

Leading change  

Developing facilitation skills with groups to enhance engagement and enquiry. Communicating and managing change processes for ‘the new thing’
Emerging:

I recognise the need for change and help people adapt.

Competent:

I encourage understanding of the need for change. I support people through impact of change, conscious of change they have already negotiated. I manage resistance to change with care and clear communication.

Releasing:

I foster a climate for change and empower action for change in my area. I implement change with continuous review and improvement.

Transforming:

I establish a values-based approach to change management and governance. I create an environment that is change-ready, building capability to design and innovate at pace to create missional value.
